Practice Being Good

I resolve to make more and more New Years Resolutions.

Others make resolutions and get overwhelmed.  Some make resolutions and give up.  Some people give up on resolutions and never make them again.

I never want to stop making resolutions. Each New Year or at the beginning of Lent, I resolve to do something to make me a better person.  Sometimes it lasts only a day, sometimes a week, but often the new, good action becomes a habit.  These positive habits collectively form virtues in me.  They become second nature - a propensity to do good.

The good habits, the virtues begin with a resolution.

  1. Congratulations on your blog, Andy, and this post made me recall the phrase "firm purpose of amendment" - much stronger than "I've really got to get on that" which I am more prone to saying at this time of year.

I also recalled the (light-hearted) post of another friend regarding New Year's resolutions. Not given to modesty, she comments, "I don't make resolutions. I fine-tune my life on a regular basis. I find that to be a more efficient way to maintain my awesomeness... ;)
