Wait for it...

2 Peter 3:8-14

The delay of the second coming of Jesus is an opportunity to shape up!  It is like getting to school and finding that the teacher has postponed the test that you were not quite ready for.  Or getting to work and finding that you have an extra week to complete the project that is taking too long to organize.  At least that is what it means to the believers.  For believers extended waiting for the New Heavens and New Earth of God's Kingdom is an example of his mercy.  A further chance for us to change our lives and prepare to be found doing the work of Jesus when he comes.

To the skeptics, and unbelievers, "delay" of the second coming of Jesus is proof enough for them to give up.  Those who do not believe are like the unrepentant procrastinator who squanders a "snow day" and still does not complete the job.  But the second letter of Peter chapter 3, verse 10 tells us that everything done on earth will be "found out" - uncovered - examined.

Those who are doing the work of God are preparing for the New Heavens and New Earth where righteousness will be the norm.  We, the believers are hoping and eagerly anticipating the second coming like children hoping for Christmas.  We are like children who are making a special gift for a parent.  The children want Christmas to come, but are working hard to get Mom or Dad's gift ready on time.  They appreciate the extra days to get the gift just right.  We believers enjoy the preparations for the coming of the Kingdom of God because we are know for certain that He will come.  We are excited about the gift of peace that we are making for Jesus.  We also appreciate the time that we have to get ready.
