Quick – there is very little time left!
Shot clock is at 1 second!
Two minute warning, down by 15 points!
Your mother is coming up the walk! Quick clean up the mess!
These urgent warnings are nothing compared to the readings
for this Sunday:
- Jonah 3:1-5, “Forty days and God will destroy your city!”
- Paul, in 1Corinthians 7:29-31, “The world as we know it is passing away!”
- Jesus in Mark 1:14-20, “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel”
When we have a deadline, we work faster, harder, more
efficient. We focus on the goal and get
rid of distractions. Nothing else
matters except the project that must be completed by the deadline. These three readings tell us that we should
live our lives as if we will soon meet God face-to-face, and give an account of
work as disciples. We must drop what we
are doing right now, and follow Jesus. (Mark1:18&20)
What is the mission of my life? How am I working as a disciple of Jesus right
now? Where and how is God expecting me
to bring the message of Jesus right now?
Is what I am doing in my life, right now, bringing about God’s
Kingdom?
Right? ---Now!
